I am a graduate of the University of Oregon’s School of Journalism and Communication with a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Journalism and Graphic Design.

I’ve been working professionally in Print Design for nine years. I started with newspaper layouts and then moved on to magazine spreads; from there I started working with collateral materials, advertising, mailers, and trade show displays.

I’ve been creating websites for seven years. I started with simple html, but have since moved on to create database-driven sites, flash sites and many hybrid sites.

I started doing Interactive Design four years ago including my first portfolio site, some Flash presentations, two online flash magazines with actionScript; most recently, I’ve been creating rich flash applications and video players.

Throughout all of this work, I’ve been developing my skills and specialization in User Interface design and Information Architecture. In my consultations, I’ve used site maps, flow charts, use cases & personas, and page description diagrams to develop application and site documentation and development frameworks. I’ve also conducted user interviews and usability testing.

In terms of technical skills, I’m an expert in using the newest editions of PhotoShop, Illustrator, InDesign, Dreamweaver, Flash, Fireworks, Aperture, Motion, Final Cut Pro, Office, iWork, Visio, Project, and Lotus Notes. I am also fluent in the following programming and scripting languages: xHtml, CSS, JavaScript, ActionScript 2.0, PHP, mySQL, basic AJAX & XML. I’ve also had extensive experience working with Interwoven CRM and WebTrends. I write all my code by hand without use of WYSIWYG editors and I always aim for both W3C validation and standards compliance.

Likewise, I’ve been taking photographs for eight years. I specialize in portrait, landscape and macro photography. I have experience utilizing Digital & 35mm film cameras, studio flash, light modifiers, backgrounds, and available light. For post production processing, I have experience scanning, converting colors, retouching and basic photo restoration. Please see the Photography section for examples of my work.
